Tax-deductible gifts
The Supreme Council Benevolent Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, EIN 23-5252962. Gifts are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. No goods or services are provided in exchange for a gift to the Annual Appeal.
After an online gift we email a receipt that serves as your written acknowledgment for tax purposes. Please keep it with your records. For advice about your own taxes, please consult a tax professional.
How you can give
- Online by card at giving.uscbf.org. Payments are processed securely by Stripe in US dollars. Online gifts are one-time gifts; we do not charge your card again.
- By check, payable to The Benevolent Foundation, mailed to: Attn: Dr. Melvin J. Bazemore, The Benevolent Foundation, Scottish Rite Cathedral, 1514-20 Fitzwater Street, Philadelphia, PA 19146-2123.
If you record a pledge online to give by check, nothing is charged online. To change or cancel a pledge, email us.
How gifts are used
Gifts support the Foundation’s charitable programs:
- Education: Scholarships, leadership development, mentorship and career readiness for deserving students through the Youth Achievement Leadership and Scholarship Program (YALSP), with preference for those attending HBCUs.
- Veterans: Outreach, educational resources, community partnerships and supportive programs for those who served, through the Veterans Focus Initiative (VFI).
- Families: Assistance for individuals, families and our aging population facing rising living costs and difficult circumstances.
As a 501(c)(3) organization, the Foundation keeps full control over how contributed funds are used within its charitable purposes.
Refunds of online gifts (proposed)
- To ask for a refund, email dwayne.e.thomas@uscnjpha.org within 30 days of your gift. Include your name, the date and amount of the gift, and the email address on your receipt.
- Refunds are made only to the original payment method, the same card or account you used. Your bank decides how long the refund takes to appear, often 5 to 10 business days.
- When a gift is refunded in full, its tax receipt is voided. When part of a gift is refunded, we void the original receipt and send a corrected one for the amount kept.
- Requests made more than 30 days after a gift are considered case by case, for example where a card was used without permission.
Gifts by check (proposed)
Checks are not refunded once deposited, except when a gift was made in error, such as a duplicate check or a wrong amount. In that case, email us and we will return the amount given in error by Foundation check and void or reissue your receipt to match.
Charges you do not recognize
If you see a charge from the Foundation that you did not make, email us right away so we can look into it. You may also contact your card issuer.
